All you need is the app, and a way to get into your victim's phone. Once these apps are installed, abusers can gain access to their victim's location, texts, photos, everything you need to harass or blackmail someone.
A digital activist was inspired to do something about this. She tweeted, "If you're a woman who has been sexually abused by a hacker who threatened to compromise your devices, contact me and I'll make sure they are properly examined". Her tweet was retweeted ten thousand times. It is not ethical or legal or right to covertly install malware on somebody else's device in order to spy on them.
When victims of sexual abuse first arrived to woman's shelter houses, they tell them to turn off all location settings on their phone. This is because can use technology to track and even terrorize their victims. The scariest part of all, sometimes you can't even detect this technology on your phone. Right now, the antivirus industry mostly doesn't recognize spyware and stalkerware, as malicious.
So far, only one major security firm has agreed to change how its antivirus software detects spyware, to help people know if their phone has been compromised. So, it is now high time for all of us to be cautious with our phones to avoid stalkers.
